The defenders of the island had not let the time bought by Obould go to waste. Emissaries had been sent to the drow of Gohem, the dwarves of Greiburg and the halflings of Bushburrow. The heroes had many times saved the people of those cities in times of danger and also the fate of Cerea and the goblins convinced many to join forces against the great common enemy.
The dwarves dug great fortifications down at the river, elven bowmen roamed the forest and small groups of halfling slingers roamed the hills to dispatch any enemy scouts. A joined effort was made to drive the bandits from their fort and a garrision was placed there controlling the pass from the north.
A great magical feat made possible by the cooperation of the guardians Em Dana and Tara Thenthen with the wizards of the Arcane Academy caused the Westroad to be reclaimed by the forest and covered by thick undergrowth, making passage impossible for larger forces.
