Description
Once Baldemar was located directly at the Great Road from the Gap to Carse, and much trade went through the city. Since its destruction during the Unlife Wars, the Great Road skirts Baldemar about a day’s march to the north to avoid the worst of the numerous unlife still roaming the area. Only the bravest adventurers dare to enter the ruins of the city itself.
History
Once Baldemar was knows as “The Golden City” or “The City of Light”. It was widely known as a beacon of justice for the area surrounding it. Many great temples were erected to the glory of the Gods of Light like Ra, Kuor and Iorak. Of this past glory nothing remains today, for during the Unlife Wars, Baldemar lay in the path of the armies of the lich Prul-Gar. The valiant defenders of Baldemar stood bravely against the unlife hordes, resisting the onslaught for more than four years. And though even this Holy City eventually fell to the dark tides, the defenders managed to bring down the leader of their enemy, the lich Prul-Gar even as they fell. It is said that, moved by the faithfulness of the defenders, Jaysek himself returned to the world of the living for one last time to strike down the evil lich. Of the defenders nary a one escaped with their lives, and so it is very hard to find witnesses who have seen the splendour of Baldemar with their own eyes.
