Chapter 10 - The Ascension of Am

Shortly after the beginning of the 6th year of Destruction, Lady Shessair came to Vesper seeking help. In the previous years she had often helped in raids on imperial troops, most notably the razing of the Brotherhood tower, but she had also been away several times, presumably to search for her beloved Am Dana, who had disappeared a few years prior to the Period of Destruction.

As none but a few of her trusted friends had known, she had already found him several years before and secretly helped him avoid the pursuit of the Hooded Wizards and the Firemage. Also Lady Shessair revealed that she and Am had married and had a son named Ke Dana who had been born in the first week of the first year of the Period of Destruction.

Now after much planning and information gathering they were ready to put their plans to reassemble the Crown of Three – a powerful magical artefact - into motion, for it would need the help of many to make it work. The Crown was split into three parts, one of which was in the possession of Am, the others were held by the Red and Black Hooded Wizard respectively. The plan required three mages to cast spells simultaneously, so Master Urebril of the Arcane Academy had fashioned three amulets that would enable their wearers to mentally communicate at all times. Lady Shessair handed one amulet each to Lady Liamyn, and Archwitch Naredia, keeping the third to herself. After explaining the plan, Lady Shessair returned to the side of her husband with the other two to prepare the spells, while Lady Gaidin assembled a team and left for war-torn Ilianin.

The city had been spared the worst ravages of Xanathar’s army, and was teeming with refugees from all over the plains. They found the Firemage in his flaming cottage, and when they approached him, he wasn’t able to do more than babble nonsensical syllables. Using a powerful charm, Lady Gaidin managed to convince him to follow her.

Lady Gaidin and her group led the Firemage to Askalon and further to the power node near the winter village. There the three mages had prepared their castings, and when the spells were cast, the Red and Black Hooded Wizards seemed to be drawn from the body of the Firemage himself.

When the two wizards and the Firemage came face to face with Am Dana and with each other their reactions were extreme. They fell to their knees, grasping their heads, but when they tried to port away, they found that impossible for Am Dana had placed powerful wards on the area.

Above the two wizards, the two missing pieces of the Crown of Three materialized, one drifting towards Lady Liamyn, the other towards Archwitch Naredia, while Lady Shessair produced the third piece that had been in the possession of Am. Am then began to chant another powerful spell, the three lady mages channelling the power of the node into him.

While the Firemage seemed to have fallen unconscious, the two Hooded Wizards slowly recovered and turned upon Am. They were opposed by Lady Gaidin and the others, who engaged them in battle to give Am time to complete his spell.

The power of the Hooded Wizards was great and some brave souls like the staunch cleric Stumpy Toss and the valiant fighter Azagred Skullsplitter lost their lives that day. Soon their power began to get weaker though. The Hooded Wizards grew more translucent by the minute. They noticed what was happening and redoubled their efforts, but soon they were mere shadows of themselves, their spells doing no harm to anyone anymore.

Then the three lady mages released their parts of the Crown and the three pieces drifted towards Am. The three pieces met in a blinding flash of light, and when those looking on could see again, Am held the reformed crown in his hand. He also seemed to shine with an inner light that hadn’t been there before. He had ascended to godhood, becoming a Lord of Orhan.

Am Dana went to the still unconscious form of the Firemage and knelt beside him. He then looked up and addressed the assembled heroes. “I thank you all for what you have done for me. Thanks to you, the Hooded Wizards are no more. The Firemage will recover in time, but he will need care. I will take him with me, for I know what he is going through now. I will return to you soon, but for now, Farewell!”

With these words, Lord Am and the Firemage were gone.

The heroes returned to Derimir to prepare the final assault on Cerea. Lady Shessair joined their efforts now, though her time on Derimir would come to an end soon.

Of the Ladies’ Amulets, as they are now called, it is assumed that Lady Shessair, and Lady Liamyn still hold their amulets, while the one Archwitch Naredia carried was lost when she fell later in the Battle of the Gods, and it might have fallen into unlife hands, making the remaining amulets unsafe to use.

The Firemage has not been seen since that day, but Am has returned as he promised to fight in the Battle of the Gods.
