Unlife is still greatly a mystery, despite ages of desperate research by Loremasters and other Essaence-users. It is a force from the the Planes of unlife which is slowly but surely destroying the civilization built up during the Third Era, as it did once before at the end of the Second Era. It seems that its objective is the absolute elimination off all life on myaasia,for reasons unknown (the fact that myaasia seems to be a gateway between worlds probably has something to do with it).The Unlife is the force behind most forms of Undead, which it uses as its tools with great efficiency. The relationship between the countless orders of Demons and the Unlife is less clear; some Demons are clearly servants or allies of the Unlife, but many show no such connections to outside observers, even though they all show up “Evil” to various detection magics(due to their close relationship to the Void or the Chaos Planes). It must be said, though, that some of the entities inhabiting the Void are so alien that there are simply no points of comparison with any human motives.

The Unlife can use the Essaence with great skill, though the power it provides to its servants is so tainted with “Evil” that it can rightfully be considered a separate force from the Essaence (some talk of the White Essaence and the Dark Essaence). Anyone tainted by using unlife is so tainted and thus suspectible to more taint and unlife sympaties. Thus anyone using negative energy spells marks themselves as such. This Taint can be detected by those detecting unlife and by unlife itself.

During the Second Era and the Wars of Dominion,the Unlife mostly used straightforward massive force. It was repelled,though the battle was extremely close and as a by-product destroyed almost all civilization on myaasia. Now,during the Age of Shadow,it is much more subtle. Rarely does the Unlife mount large-scale attacks, preferring instead to slowly corrode civilization by subverting rulers and people in positions of power to their side. The methods of the Unlife now involve disguise, lies and propaganda instead of outright mayhem. Needless to say, such methods are much harder to combat than straight-out attacks. It would be a fatal mistake to think that the Unlife abhors force, however. No one knows the true extent of the Unlife's power or infiltration into the society, as most people trying to resist it simply disappear. This has resulted in dragonian measures in much of the continent of myaasia continent with anyone helping unlife or using unlife being killed immediately.

One of the things nonmembers often find hard to understand is how any living being could worship unlife. Of course the reasons are many, but a very common thing is the “anti-death” message the unlife have. People who are afraid of dying try many methods to prolong their existence, even if it means lichhood or such.
There are also smaller groups, that are members of the immortal races who see the unlife as kin, being unaging too.

Unlife is a True neutral-Neutral evil force.
Priests are usually Clerics; many are multiclass Cleric/Blackguard.
Followers can be of any neutral or evil alignment.
