Vol IX: Retreat of the Academy
6th year of Destruction
With the Empire’s forces almost depleted the Alliance began to plan the actual retaking of Cerea. The imperial garrision in Naye Bay had already been recalled to Cerea and the town was once again in the hands of the free people of Derimir, when another disaster struck.
As Master Sage Smallgrake once explained to me, during the period of Destruction, the boundaries between the planes – which are already thin in Myaasia – become even thinner. At points where there already is a connection between planes there is an additional weak spot…
There was such a connection not far from Vesper itself – the spot where the Arcane Academy was linked to Myaasia. And in the 6th year of Destruction the boundaries between the planes ripped wide open at that spot.
At first only a few demons arrived through the rift, but a scouting party, led by Lord *crossed out* Sir *crossed out* Mr. Jursten himself reported hundreds of thousands of demons massing there for an invasion there would be no hope of defeating.
All attempts to close the rift were unsuccessful. Several raids by advance parties of the demons caused serious casualties for the defenders. The High Master of the Arcane Academy Professor Naillo, fell to the demons as well as the famous Bard Wilhoon Thibault.
When the demon army started to advance through the gate in earnest, Lady High Mage Shessair-Dana, the new High Master of the Academy, cut the link between the Academy and Derimir, sending the Academy adrift among the outer planes to close the rift.
This act in effect closed the connection between Myaasia and the foreign plane, though it is not known whether the mages were able to close the connection to the Academy as well.
There has been no contact with any of those within the Academy since that day. If anyone knows their fate it is the Lord Am himself…
