====== On Playing Evil Characters ====== ===== Basics ===== Cerea Island 2 is principally intended for good (or neutral) aligned characters. This is because the quests are basically about fighting evil and setting out to help each other whether on a community or individual basis. ===== DM quests ===== Allmost all (99%) of all DM quests are meant for good-intentioned heroes attempting to help someone or achieve a noble goal, so evil characters will not really fit in. ===== Experiences from Cerea 1 ===== Roleplaying an evil character while adjusting to life on Cerea was not easy. There were some who became upset over other players who chose to play evil characters and who openly exhibited evil tendencies, which naturally made interacting, socializing and journeying together difficult. It is natural for good characters to NOT want evil characters in the same party. To say that such situations reasonably invoke moral dilemmas and infighting would be an understatement. As it is, how would a person who had dedicated his or her life to fighting evil feel in the forced company of his or her supposed enemy? ===== Recommendations on Roleplaying Evil ===== So the only way a character can be evil and still be a part of a quest party is to hide the fact that they are evil. This takes a lot of effort and skill at roleplaying, not to mention the difficulty level, so think very hard before deciding if you want to go down this route. If you create an evil character, the only way you can realistically take part without turning all the other quest players against you is to hide the fact that you are evil from them. If for some reason you develop hatred towards an NPC, you might tell the DM that you will sneak back later and try to murder that NPC. The DM can then decide if you succeed or not. Be warned though -- truly intelligent folks don't just go around committing murder without rhyme or reason. Getting caught or even falling under suspicion would be a great hindrance to whatever one wants to accomplish. The most important point of all: an evil character needs to have a focus. This is much more important for an evil character than a good character, because an evil character has to be so much more subtle about it. All the little evil things they do are done to achieve their goal. If an action does not bring them closer to their goal, they would possibly not do it for fear of drawing attention to themselves. ===== Conclusion ===== Playing an evil character in a world of good is not easy. Consider it a challenge, but be careful if you get it wrong. With a notorious reputation, your character might well become unplayable, finding himself or herself shunned by the majority and little more than an outcast. So expect that any known evil character may and will eventually become unplayable once his or her motives and deeds are exposed to the world. Yet caution and prudence with one's actions will extend his/her lifetime greatly.
