^Name^Xavier Metallion^ |Place|Not placed| |Race|Outsider| |Class|Sorceror| |Alignment|Lawful Evil| |Groups|Extraplanar contacts, Some ties to Reann Church,...| **Background:**\\ Xavier may not look like it, but he is a very powerful demon. The entities of his home dimension have sent him to Myaasia to prepare the world for an invasion. He arrived on Myaasia about 2000 years ago, shortly after the end of the elf orc wars. That is when he learned about the unlife threat, that is hanging over Myaasia. At first he was content to watch the forces of life and unlife decimate each other, but after seeing the devastation wrought in the mage wars and gaining insight into the true strength of unlife his concerns grew.\\ The demonic entities of his home were not interested in conquering a plane ravaged by unlife, with no mortal slaves to rule and all the treasures destroyed. What is more, they concluded, that invading a plane ruled by unlife would be much more bothersome than just taking it from the mortals that inhabit it.\\ So, after the end of the mage wars, Xavier began to gather intelligence on unlife and on the various factions of mortals on Myaasia, and began working in secret to obstruct the plans of unlife.\\ Over the centuries he has come to know more about unlife than any mortal on Myaasia and has been the cause of the destruction of countless of their number.\\ He has also established a minor outpost of his people on an uninhabited island somewhere out on the ocean far from any shipping routes. The island is shielded from scrying and so far has remained hidden from both the mortals and unlife of Myaasia. He carefully keeps the activity there down to avoid detection but powerful protections are in place to be activated in an emergency. The island also holds a portal to Xavier’s homeplane. The island is inhabited by some lesser outsiders of Xaviers homeplane and some mortal slaves he kidnapped from the Mainland. The slaves are in a comparable good condition. Xavier keeps them well fed and healthy (not out of compassion, but because he believes in conserving the workpower). Recently he brought in a rather large group of slaves from the city of Baldemar, that he spirited away before the unlife army overran the city. Those slaves are almost happy with the conditions they encountered on the island and are thankful to Xavier for saving their lives. Some might even resist rescue attempts.\\ With the recent rise in unlife activity Xavier has become aware of a group of heroes who have emerged on a small island in the far east. He is impressed by their power and is now looking for ways to use them to further his plans.\\ **After the Period of Destruction:**\\ During the Siege of Baldemar Xavier's demonic forces were decimated, the last of them being wiped out during the battle of the gods. Also because of these setbacks he has fallen into disgrace with his superiors and is now working largely on his own. He still retains his hidden outpost and a few dozen loyal human subjects as well as a hand full of demons. The powers of his healing staff were almost depleted in the fight against Prul-Gar and it functions on a lower power level than before. **Abilities:**\\ Xavier is an outsider whose powers are roughly equal to those of a demigod. He is well versed in the art of sorcery. In the centuries of his battle against unlife, he has created a very powerful weapon, a staff that helps him in his fight against unlife. Though he does not need to fear direct battle with any unlife creature he has yet encountered, he prefers to work behind the scenes, using mortals to do his work and fighting himself only when necessary. Therefore he has mastered the art of manipulating, coercing or downright threatening mortals to do what he wants them to do.\\ In all this he never hesitates to sacrifice his helpers, if the expected gain justifies it. He will only rescue the mortals who do his battles, if he thinks they will be valuable to him in the future, and prefers to do so in a way that will not reveal his true powers.\\ **Appearance:**\\ Xavier appears as a middle aged human with medium build, black hair and icy blue eyes. He seems to be smiling most of the time. He gives his real name most of the time, but pretend to be a travelling sorceror or priest of some minor god or other. This is not his real form of course, but over the millennia he has worn it, he has grown used to it and does not shed it even when he is among his peers. He is a master of the schools of Evocation and Illusion and could appear in any form he wished if he desired so.\\ Even his true power is cloaked when he is travelling in Myaasia incognito.\\ **Quest hooks:**\\ Xavier will most likely appear in situations where he tries to use the characters in his fight against unlife. He might send the characters into battle or he might hint at ways to defeat unlife without direct battle. He will not fight at the character’s side, but will stay at the backlines of the fighting, maybe occasionally raising someone.\\ Sometimes he might use the characters as a diversion to accomplish his own goals, like stealing an artifact from the unlife or killing a powerful leader, while the guard is busy fighting elsewhere.\\ Later on the characters might be able to find out who Xavier truly is. They will then have to decide if they want to continue to accept his aid, or if they try to fight him. (He will not fight them of course, they are much too valuable as enemies of unlife. He will rather disappear at the first outbreak of hostilities.)\\ Later still the characters might even find a way to Xavier’s island outpost. Probably Xavier will take them there himself to fight some unlife invasion. It is unlikely the characters will find the island on their own.\\ ** Equipment:**\\ Xavier’s Staff\\ Xavier’s Rod of Healing\\
