An extract from the writings of the Blue Wizard of Carse:

"My people have a legend... in fact, like so many races, we have quite a number of legends. This legend, almost a fable now, giving its age, has been passed from father to son and mother to daughter for countless generations.

It is said that countless years ago... thousands... a great battle took place on the lands that are now empty fields... many miles west of Carse.

The battle was great... two vast armies faced each other... no one anymore remembers the reason for the battle, nor who took part, nor who won.

The battle was said to involve the strongest of magics... the stronges of armies... and the stranges machines one could imagine... all used with the single purpose of destroying the other army.

The battle raged for many years... decades some say... and hundreds of thousands died... possibly millions.

Trenches  and great fortresses were build and destroyed many many times a year. Each side kept pushing more and more forces into a battle front that streched for miles in each direction.

Wizards hurled spells of massive power and destruction at eachother... great war machines hurled protjectiles and carved enemies into ruin.

What part though did the ogres play in this... the reader might ask.

The ogres were not part of the battle. The ancestors of my people inhabited the caves under the battlegrounds.

In those times my people were a simple folk... not very intelligent... savage and beastial... some claim we still are, and in comparison to an ancient race like the elves there might be some truth in this.

But... all those years ago.. something happened. It seems that the great magical energies that were released during this battle caused a change in my people.

Some of my ancestors started to change and over a period of generations... a new type of ogre emerged. The Ogre Mage.

It was a great time for the Ogre people. Yet is think it is maybe a sad story. Millions had to die so that I and my fellows might be.

Maybe though the Gods decided to use that battle for some greater good. Decided that some good must come from all these deaths... and they focused those magics to try and civilise and advance the Ogre race."
